Worldsmart Retail launches into Self-Serve

14 Jun 2009

The IBM Self Checkout solution will be showcased by Worldsmart Retail at the upcoming IGA show on the Gold Coast in July.

Self service technology is giving time and transaction control back to shoppers and retailers enjoy the benefits as well, according to WSR NSW State Manager David Westhorpe

"The Self Checkout lane has become more viable and convenient to the customer, particuarly now supermarkets are open for longer.  In the past 24 hours I have checked in to board a flight, landed and bought a burger for the trip home, paid for the carpark at the airport, refueled my car and bought some groceries at the supermarket, withou talking to anyone and all in extremely efficeint time"

However, it is not only at the front of the store where retailers can make a difference to both their brand and customer loyalty

"Retailers may also install self service technology throughout the store to allow customers to order from the deli.  Instead of waiting at the deli counter, they can place their order via a touch screen ordering system, carry on shopping and then pick their order at the deli later"

"By doing this retailers not only gain customer loyalty but it also gives retailers the opportunity of re-deploying labour to more profitable areas and increase customer service.  It's all about meeting the expectation of today's and tomorrow's shopper"
